Frequently Asked Questions

Any injectable procedure comes with potential risks, however fillers using hyaluronic acid are very safe. Juvederm and Restylane use hyaluronic acid which can be dissolved should any unwanted placement occur.

Any active infections near desired injection sites, sensitivity to lidocaine or hyaluronic acid should be discussed with your provider before your appointment. If you have a history of cold sores, Valtrex may be recommended if having your lips augmented.  It is recommended to avoid alcohol and any blood thinners such as Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Vitamin E, St. John’s Wort for 3 days before your treatment.

Side effects are rare but can include redness, swelling, and bruising at the injection site. The filler may also show up under the skin as tiny bumps. These bumps typically resolve within the first two weeks.

Hyaluronic acid is a molecule most commonly found in joints. It occurs naturally in the human body and is central to regulating cell growth and renewal. Hyaluronic acid has many functions in the body. The primary functions of HA are to lubricate movable parts of the body such as joints, bind to water and maintain elasticity of the skin.

Unlike botulinum toxins which relax muscles, dermal fillers help to reconstruct the face by simulating restoration of bone loss and create depth and contour of lost volume areas.

The most common areas treated are:

Nasolabial folds (lines between the nose and corner of the mouth)

Marionette lines (from the corner of the mouth downwards)

Lips (Enhance the shape, definition and volume of lips)

The effects of fillers are relatively long lasting but not permanent (for hyaluronic acid fillers such as Juvederm or Restylane). Duration depends on many factors, such as the area treated, individual’s skin type, skin condition lifestyle and age. Generally the effects can last between 6-12 months depending on the product.
