As a regular part of a skin care routine, patients statistically receive 1.2 facials per month. Traditional methods like exfoliation, cleansing and extractions have a been the standard of care for decades. This is why when a new technology comes around, such as the AquaGold micro-channel delivery system, we get a little excited.
Our most favorite part about this delivery system is that it allows the practitioner to compose individualized products in custom ratios that are patient specific. Neurotoxins (Botox, Dysport, Xeomin) can be combined with Hyaluronic Acid fillers such as Restylane, Juvederm or Versa. Additionally, antioxidants such as ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) can be thrown into the mix.
The AquaGold, or AquaGold Fine Touch facial gives traditional methods of skincare an upgrade, allowing for smaller pores, extra dermal hydration, brighter, younger looking skin AND reduction of fine lines. The treatment also covers a larger treatment area than your regular dose of dermal fillers or botox, and since the solutions are delivered directly into the dermis, they are absorbed more effectively as opposed to passing through a single syringe. 2
- reduces pore size (with neuromodulators)
- volumizing (with hyaluronic acid)
- Lighten hyper-pigmentation of the skin
- Essentially a painless treatment
- May benefit rosacea
How Does it Work?
The AquaGold facial is comprised of a small, capsule-like devise with a series of 24 karat gold needles (each smaller than a hair follicle) embedded at the top 3. The tiny, hollow needles create very small openings in the skin allowing for a variety of healing solutions to enter the dermis from the customized blend in the reservoir. This acts like a drug delivery system for the skin.
How is AquaGold® Different Thank Microneedling?
The Aquagold creates micro channels and delivers treatments directly into the skin. The purpose of other common microneedling devices is to puncture the skin for stimulation. Often times following microneedling, a solution such as PRP or Mesotherapy is applied topically, but does not deliver it deep into the dermis.
Common Solutions Used in the AquaGold
- Neurotoxins (Botox®, Dysport® or Xeomin®)
- Hyaluronic acid fillers (Restyalane®. Juvederm®, Versa®)
- Growth factors
What is the Procedure?
Your practitioner will start off with prepping the skin by disinfecting and cleaning it. The needles are so microscopic, that topical numbing agents are not required. After selecting a solution, they will insert it into the AquaGold devise. It is then applied to the area by painlessly penetrating the skin and delivering the magical cocktail. The entire procedure takes less than thirty minutes and requires little to no downtime.
Is It Safe?
The gold-plated needles are less likely to cause irritation or an allergic reaction. 2 The tiny microchannels also close within the hour, lessening the already rare chances of a post-procedure infection. Also, the skin remains intact, lessening those chances even more.
Although side effects are rare, there may be some swelling and redness immediately after treatment. This should resolve within a few hours, if not less. Results are seen three to seven days after procedure and typically last three to four months. Doing several treatments throughout the year will extensively improve the skins appearance, however, the recommended amount of treatments are once a month to every three months. 3
It is important to be aware that this treatment does not replace Bo-Tox or dermal filler treatments as this procedure does not completely paralyze strong expression muscles, nor does it enhance areas where significant volume has been lost. However, this procedure can be combined to enhance results. 3
This treatment delivers neurotoxins and filler across the entire face or treatment area in micro-doses for an over-all smoothing, plumping and rejuvenating effect!
